TRUE.
Slavery still exists in many forms, but particularly in an especially horrific one: human trafficking for sex slavery. If you don't believe me, see
http://www.stopthetraffik.org/what/problem.aspx. Also, see this article by the NY Times Magazine (note: the descriptions contain very strong and disturbing images, so the reading isn't recommended for everyone.)
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.h ... gewanted=1. Slavery still exists. As Christians, I feel it is our moral duty to do everything we can to stop this tragedy that is wrong on so many levels.
What can be done?
1) Pray. Pray. Pray. Prayer is the key to absolutely everything in this life. Pray for the victims, the oppressors, and those who perpetuate and support the system with their financial patronage and exploitation. Pray for world governments and organizations and that God will put this issue on their hearts and give them discernment as to how best to combat it.
2) Get involved. We are not helpless; we have our voices. Spread the word. Go to
www.stopthetraffik.org and sign the petition to get funding from the UN. The petition will last until February 10, so tell as many people as possible.
We cannot let turn a deaf ear to human trafficking. It took years and decades for the abolitionist movement to overturn the established system because not enough people were outraged by its atrocities. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. Let's learn from history and do something to stop this.
